Is The Left Bank a listening bar?

Yes. The room is arranged around the music. A carefully chosen vinyl collection, played properly, on a system built for the space. You don't need to know anything about hi-fi to enjoy it. You just need to like being somewhere that sounds good.

What is a listening bar?

A bar where the music is the point, not the background. Records are selected and played with intention, the system is built for the room, and the volume sits where you can still hold a conversation but the music genuinely carries. The idea has roots in Japan. This version is rooted in Glasgow.

Can I request a song?

It's not a jukebox. There's usually someone selecting, and part of the pleasure is being taken somewhere by them. But this is a friendly room, not a precious one. Have a word at the bar; a good request at the right moment is always welcome.

Can I bring my own records?

On the right night, with a word in advance, often yes. Especially if you're a selector or have something worth hearing. Message us on Instagram or ask at the bar.

Do you host DJs and selectors?

We do. Glasgow selectors and guests every Friday and Saturday. Check Upcoming for who's playing.

Why vintage Bose 901s?

Because they were designed around the same idea the bar is: that what matters is how music feels in a real room, not how it measures in a lab. They fill a space rather than firing at a single chair. There's more on that in the journal.

Do you serve food?

Yes. Brunch from 10am till 4pm, the evening menu from 4pm, and the late kitchen menu from 9pm until last orders at midnight. The Lebanese breakfast and the eggs mornay have been on since 2006. Vegan and gluten-free menus always on. More on late-night food.

Do you have a vegan menu?

Yes. There's a dedicated vegan menu running every day, with brunch dishes, mains, sides and dessert. Find it on the Menus page or ask your server. More on vegan and gluten-free dining.

Do you have a gluten-free menu?

Yes. There's a dedicated gluten-free menu, also on every day, alongside the standard one. Most dishes can be adapted on request. Let your server know. A vegan dish is not automatically gluten-free; the vegan and gluten-free dining page explains the two menus.

Are you open every day?

Yes, 10am till 1am, with last food orders at midnight. Over Christmas and New Year the hours change, and we are closed on Christmas Day: see the Christmas page.

Do you take bookings?

Yes, on the website. Walk-ins always welcome too, especially earlier in the evening.

Do you take large bookings?

Yes. Book online for up to eight guests. For nine or more, or to arrange a private space, email contact@theleftbank.co.uk or call 0141 339 5969. That way we can plan the space and the kitchen ahead of you arriving. More on groups and private hire.

Are there areas available to book?

Yes. The Left Bank has 65 seats in total. The mezzanine seats up to 37 for dining or 50 for a drinks party, the pod up to 8 for dining or 12 for drinks, and the listening bar area can be reserved for the right night. Are children welcome?

Yes. Children are welcome to dine with us up until 10pm, accompanied by an adult, when ordering a meal. We have a kids menu and high chairs.

Is the bar accessible?

Is there outdoor seating?

Yes, a few tables out front when the weather allows.

Are you dog-friendly?

Yes, always have been. Bring the dog.
